Quadruple kindergarten and primary school, Mettmenstetten

Project details

Client: Mettmenstetten school district

Sector: Education

Construction systems: Timber element construction

Construction time: 6 months

Year of construction: 2024

Architect: einsarchitekten

Location: Mettmenstetten

Feature: Execution as a subcontractor

The municipality of Mettmenstetten laid the foundation for a sustainable educational landscape with an innovative school building. The two-story timber frame construction sends a strong signal for resource-efficient building. With plenty of space for four kindergarten classes and additional teaching areas for the primary school, it was a targeted response to the region's steady population growth.

The building forms a new center of the campus on the northern edge of the sports field. Thanks to clearly structured rooms, plenty of daylight, and warm wooden architecture, a learning-friendly atmosphere has been created. At the same time, the new building meets the highest ecological standards: Minergie-A/Minergie-Eco certification, a photovoltaic system, and connection to the local heating network make it a sustainable part of the school grounds.

A flexible pavilion structure for future generations

With this project, Mettmenstetten opted for a construction method that combines ecological responsibility and structural flexibility. The pavilion, made of prefabricated wooden elements, enabled precise, efficient implementation while also laying the foundation for future expansions. The structure allows for easy addition of additional stories, enabling the building to adapt to new requirements in the long term.

The impressive concept was developed by the firm einsarchitekten, while Naef & Partner Baumanagement AG was responsible for ensuring that construction work was completed on schedule. Working together with all the specialist planners, they created a sustainable learning environment that blends harmoniously into the park-like surroundings of the school and sports complex.

A model school building

Spacious common areas, light-filled rooms, and the consistent use of wood characterize the interior of the building. The architecture focuses on openness and versatility, which provides lasting support for everyday teaching.

Sustainability is firmly anchored: renewable energies, energy-efficient building technology, and ecological building materials ensure responsible operation. The project shows how modern timber element construction can be implemented not only functionally and economically, but also in a convincing design, on schedule, and with high quality standards.
