Montlingen, double kindergarten with music center

Project details

Client: School administration, primary school community EKMO

Sector: Education

Construction systems: Timber element construction

Year of construction: 2024

Architect: Tom Munz Architects

Area (m²): 830

Place: Montlingen

Characteristic: Execution as a subcontractor

On the slope above Montlingen stands a building that is more than just a new house: it forms the transition between the landscape and the village and makes a visible contribution to the further development of the townscape. Its placement creates a clear line to the settlement area and at the same time a calm background for the existing school ensemble. The interplay of location, proportions and materiality conveys familiarity, but also provides new impetus.

With the new school and music building, the municipality of Montlingen is setting a strong example for sustainable and future-oriented construction. The two-storey building in modern timber system construction impresses with its high energy efficiency, short construction time and flexible usage options.

Thanks to the modular design, the building can be easily extended if required. Automated systems for shading, heating and lighting as well as the PV system on the roof minimize energy consumption and maintenance costs. The CO₂-neutral construction method creates a healthy, natural indoor climate and actively contributes to reducing the environmental impact. A place that combines functionality, sustainability and quality.

Space for children and music

Two worlds come together under one roof: curious discovery and concentrated music-making. While the kindergarten's bright rooms are located on the first floor, the upper floor offers optimal conditions for rehearsals. An acoustically effective coffered ceiling ensures excellent sound quality, creates a calm atmosphere and gives the interior a characteristic expression.

The areas for the children are clearly structured and offer space for lively play as well as quiet retreats. Flexible, movable elements make it possible to adapt the environment to the respective needs of the young users in no time at all.

Sustainable, flexible, future-oriented

The building is based on a modern timber supporting structure that combines ecological responsibility and high efficiency. Thanks to its modular design, the building can easily be extended or reorganized at a later date. Automated technical systems reduce energy consumption, while the solar system on the roof generates part of the energy required. Natural materials and intelligent planning create a healthy indoor climate and ensure long-term quality.
