Extension of the Civil Engineering Office in St. Gallen

Project details

Client: Civil Engineering Office, Canton of St. Gallen

Construction systems: Timber element construction

Construction time: 1 week

Year of construction: 2025

Architect: Hubert Bischoff Architect BSA

Location: St. Gallen

Feature: Execution as a subcontractor

The office extension at the Civil Engineering Office in St. Gallen transforms an inconspicuous existing building into a functional and atmospheric workplace. The previously unused attic space was completely reorganized, expanded, and extended with an additional level. The result is four bright, characterful offices, characterized by generous sloping ceilings, calm materials, and subtle, natural lighting.

The construction was carried out using modern timber element construction methods: prefabricated exterior and interior walls, floor slabs, and roof elements were assembled with precision, enabling fast and clean construction. Inside, high-quality finishes with exposed timber ceilings and understated white surfaces create a calm, focused working environment.

New development

A new, elegantly designed wooden staircase leads to the upper floor and also forms a warm connection to the existing building. Two skylights illuminate the corridor that connects the offices and gives the new floor a surprising sense of spaciousness.

The new level blends harmoniously into the existing building. In addition to the minor change to the exterior appearance, the addition of another story opens up a completely new spatial quality inside: light-flooded, functional, and characterized by a pleasant, natural atmosphere.
